Blee blo blah another lazy title day

No real progress on my knitting. I'm cut short for time this month, what with science projects and all this other stuff being due, so I haven't gotten in much knitting. BUT, the results from the poll came in, so now instead I will have frogging!

The stump glove won! Bye-bye, teapot mitt . . .


My cousin's wedding was Saturday. No real pictures that would interest all of you crafters, but here is one of my cousin's head (as of that sounds any more interesting ;) ). She got her hair braided into a heart. The picture is bad (we were in the limo and it was bumpy), but I like the whipped lighting.

Waldo can be found at Club Dream (1532 Washington Ave, Miami Beach) every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. If you look carefully you can find him dancing in a cage suspended over the bar in the Nugget Room.

A Tale of Two Fugly Gloves

Once upon a time, there was a young maiden with a skein of Jo-Ann Sensations Licorice and a need to knit a pair of fingerless gloves.

Well, things obviously didn't go as planned.

"Oh my!" said she. "This first glove is too chunky! My palms are sweating and the thumb is cutting off my circulation! And also, it looks like a lumpy mutated teapot!"
And so she cast aside the first fugly glove.

Then, the maiden was whispered ideas to by the Magical World of Ravelry.com and spawned a second, better fingerless glove.
"This glove was knit in an hour flat!" she exclaimed. "Surely it is much better than the first glove!"

Again, no luck.

"Oh dear!" she cried. "It looks more like a stump than a fingerless glove! To fugly for another maiden to bear!"

And then the Magical Blogger Poll Feature called out to her, and the maiden had a brilliant idea.

"I know!" danced she. "I will leave the decision in the hands of Most Wonderful Visitors to the Thinking in Magenta Realm, and the glove that is chosen was be saved from The Frog and be given a mate!"

Thanks to Yarns Unlimited, I need a bigger basket

You can tell I spent time with my grandma ;)

5 gorgeous skeins of Manos del Uruguay in colorway 115, to become a sweater sometime in the future.


And 2 skeins of Plymouth Dreambaby DK in colorway 117 (no idea what they'll be used for; I just liked the color :P )

Along with the yarn, I got another pair of buttons for Trendsweater, which I'm forcing myself to finish (or at least finish a side) before I continue with other projects.

On another note, I finished my Hitty doll!

Okay, so my grandma did most of the work, but I painted the face, arms, and legs (the hardest part) and sewed all the hand-made lace and the reeeaallly tiny cross-stitch.

I can't think of a catchy title right now

Went to Jo-Ann with my mom today. First I picked up two sets of dpn's, US 3's (to replace the aluminum ones that I am allergic to. Now I'm back onto the Loooove Monkeys!) and US 1's (cause they were on sale, sock-sized, and US 2's were out of stock).

Then I got this pretty skein of Patons Rumor. It will become fingerless gloves for my friend Paige later on.

What I am doing with all these fingerless gloves? You will have to wait and see ;)

But these beautiful buttons I found just browsing. I just love the vintage-ness and the color (which is pretty exact in the picture). They will be sewed onto the front bands of Trendsweater.

Right now, Trendsweater looks like this.

Yeah. Not too impressive. I still have to seam the sleeves, the sides, and knit the left collar and front band. But then the fun part: finding more buttons!

Oh, and because I'm off school this week, I'll be at my grandma's for a couple of days. We'll most likely take a trip to Yarns Unlimited, but we'll also be working on my Hitty doll. I've been practicing my embroidery because I want to hand-sew all the cute little clothes. And if you are at my skill level of embroidery, you might need this:

Art history repeats itself

What is it about school assignments that inspire me? The fact that it's obligatory? ;)

Okay, so for the English Festival, we have to either submit 3 drawings based on the books or do a book report on 3 extra books you have to read. So you can see why I chose the first option.

Marie, Dancing is one of my favorites we've had to read this year. It is about a French ballet dancer (a dance I took for about 7 years) at the Paris Opera (setting of the Phantom of the Opera, my absolute favorite musical) who poses for Edgar Degas' (my favorite artist) sculpture, Little Dancer Aged Fourteen.

It was not hard for me to love this book.

On the book's back cover is a picture of the sculpture, my third drawing assignment was due Thursday (it was Wednesday at the time), and I had no inspiration, so I just decided to free-hand draw the sculpture for my last assignment.
Problem: I got too attached to this picture to give it up.

Luckily, my teacher accepted a pretty exact copy from the school's copy machine, and my English Festival work was complete.

A strange coincidence between this picture, myself, Edward Degas (from Marie, Dancing):

"I understood that Monsieur Degas recieved many offers for his stauette, but he refused to sell it."

All things old, no new, and many blue

I have no desire to continue with updates on my WIP's, so today I'm going to catch up with things I should have posted about when they were created, but didn't.

The Stitch Markers From Forever Ago

Aren't they cute? I made these back when I first bought my sock needles (which means they don't fit that many needle sizes :P ). Two matching ones I liked so much, they became earrings.

English Festival Art Project Turned Personal Closet Decoration

This one's more recent. It's from the book Shabanu. I impressed even myself with the shading (which I hate doing when drawing clothes).
Also, get this: the chadr used to be pink.

Besides my horrible first attempt at seaming, this turned out great and IT FITS!!! The yarn is old. In fact, it's from the kit I got when I first wanted to learn how to knit, but the the instructions were not at all clear and so I never used the yarn. It is a pretty color, though :)

Also, my mom claims the button is the extra one (that comes in those little bags attached to the garment when you buy it) from a jacket she has. Well, I said, it was in my button jar, and you put all your spare buttons in your sewing basket, so it couldn't be.

Well, what do you know.

I still wonder how it managed to jump from her sewing basket into my button jar. The mouth of the jar is not very large, and besides, the lid was screwed on.

Ah well. I just hope that jacket doesn't lose a button anytime soon ;)
