Spring break

Began like this:

One of my friends (for the sake of internet safety, we're going to call her Kelly), while a devout Office fan, had *gasp* never seen Season 2. She's up-to-date with Seasons 4 and 5, but it is practically my religion that Season 2 is The Office at its finest.

She also knits :D

Being a good girl and working on WIP's (instead of listening to my naughty desires and casting on much much more), I brought the Pomatomus sock and alternated between working on the foot and knitting up the first of my cousin's gloves. Kelly learned about short row shaping, reading charts, shaping heels, and that Jim is the most adorable man on the face of television all in one day xD

She also adored the aqua Plymouth Dreambaby that was slowly forming the darned second sock. I need to get her to a LYS, stat.

Class Trip~Part 2

Moving onto:

Day 2
This day was mostly spent at museums: Geppi's Entertainment Museum and the Sports Legends Museum. We started off the day with Geppi's.
If you are going to visit Baltimore, go visit this place! It's all about the history of media and how Americans looked to their favorite comics/TV/icons to pull them out of their everyday lives. It's stocked with first-edition comics for Peanuts, superheros, and hundreds more. Plus our tour guide was really funny and it was just a cool place to go to!

In the pictures, all the movie posters are the originals that were displayed back when the movies were first in theaters, and the comics are first editions. The pictures of scenes from Snow White are the original slides drawn by the Disney artists. If you have any questions about other objects in the photos, feel free to comment :)












Now I don't have a lot of pictures from the Sports Legends Museum, because if you can tell, I am not very much into that kind of stuff. But they did have this station where you can try on famous players' uniforms, and as you can see my friends didn't exactly wear the right size :P



After that, we went to the local mall and ate lunch and bought some souvenirs. I bought a strawberry charm for my phone at a jewelry booth.

A small, sad story: Remember when I went to New York for New Year's? Well while I was there I got a cell phone charm that was a little yellow sparkly ladybug inside a blue ring. Sadly, I lost the ladybug part of the charm and had to replace it with another not-as-sparkly bead. That's why the strawberry is now on my phone. (Picture of the old charm below)

And after the mall came the long, tedious bus ride back to Pittsburgh. Thanks for listening!

Yeah I know, I can always just upload them straight to my Blogger posts, but hey sometimes that takes too long and you can't always see everything

Class Trip~Part 1

Can you sing, "Good morning, BAAAAAAAALTIMORE!"? ;)

It took a massive pizza fundraiser to afford all this, and we did so much that I have to divide this weekend's trip into two posts (mostly for the amazing amount of pictures I took). So here goes!

Day 1
We had to be at school by 7:00 am, so my wake-up call was 6:00. UGH. Then came the five-hour bus ride. Thank gawd for iPods. Everyone was pretty exhausted though, so I could (try to) sleep in peace and quiet. Towards the end, it got really boring. To entertain myself, my friend Laura posed for a portrait.


First up: The Baltimore Aquarium and dolphin show! Okay, how awesome are dolphins? They can jump like thirty+ feet in the air and do all kinds of cool tricks. Also, Baltimore has a really neat aquarium, with escalators and people-movers instead of tiresome stairs and all kinds of opportunities for great shots.













Then we took a Ducky Tour around the city, and I have some advice for travelers who also want to take this tour: BRING EARPLUGS. They hand out these duck-quacker-noisemaker thingys, and some rude people who names I will not mention will make it their goal to annoy you as much as possible by repeatedly blowing them in your ear.

Now in case you've never heard of it, a Ducky Tour is in this vehicle that looks like a boat on wheels, which it pretty much is. You typically find them in cities near waterways (we have them here in Pittsburgh, too). You go around the said city in the boat, and then the driver literally drives right into the water and you see everything from the boat. It sounds weird, but it's actually really cool.

Oh and by the way, the white tomb is actually the grave of Edgar Allan Poe :0




For dinner, we went to ESPN Sports Zone and ate typical American food (burgers, chicken, hot dogs, etc.) and went upstairs to play games. Then another bus ride to the hotel to collapse into the hot tub, watch The Office reruns (I have the first three seasons on DVD), and go to bed.

You can tell I spent time with my grandma ;)

5 gorgeous skeins of Manos del Uruguay in colorway 115, to become a sweater sometime in the future.


And 2 skeins of Plymouth Dreambaby DK in colorway 117 (no idea what they'll be used for; I just liked the color :P )

Along with the yarn, I got another pair of buttons for Trendsweater, which I'm forcing myself to finish (or at least finish a side) before I continue with other projects.

On another note, I finished my Hitty doll!

Okay, so my grandma did most of the work, but I painted the face, arms, and legs (the hardest part) and sewed all the hand-made lace and the reeeaallly tiny cross-stitch.

Monday
I visited Yarns Unlimited!

It is the greatest place ever.
Well, maybe not ever.
But it is still really cool ;)

After like spending half an hour nearly swooning from yarn lust, I started shopping. I got another skein of Steadfast Fibers Marvelous Mohair, because I didn't think my first skein was enough for the Gossamer Shell Lace scarf (from One-Skein Wonders) that I want to make.

And I also picked up two skeins of Koigu Painter's Palette Premium Merino (man that's a mouthful—of gob-smacking gorgeous color nonetheless :P)

For this!

It is the beginning of the Spiral Eyelet Socks. My first socks :D
The colors are amazing and variegate like a rainbow, with a little brown stripe every here and there, looking like a little rain cloud amid all the glorious rainbow-ness.

Also, while my grandma may not be much of a knitter (yet), she does have a stash of yarn that she's used over the years for doll hair. And she graciously let me keep these two.
