I have just discovered that my friend knits.
TWO of my friends.
I started a new school this year, and as fate would have it, class schedules have had me spending a lot of time with a girl I went to preschool with. We have also taken lessons from the same piano teacher in the past (we were even duet partners).
So get this: best friends from preschool become best friends in high school.
Not even kidding. We're so alike it's uncanny. We both:
~Are in the symphonic band
~Are in the same gym class
~Have the same lunch
~Have read most of the same books/like the same movies
~Are huge Phantom of the Opera fans
~Are huge Harry Potter geeks
I really love this girl. She's been super nice to me through the new-school transition, sort of taking me in, and now her friends are my friends, too.
Just yesterday, she was wearing this really pretty orange scarf. I recognized the stitch and told her I knit.
"Really? I made this!"
And so we began a discussion of needles and yarn and two-stranded techniques. Our other friend overheard.
"Are you talking about knitting? I'm making this red and white hat now, but my needle is too small…"
(And today, I lent her my US 10 circular.)
And now at lunch, we talk about Knit Picks and buying patterns and yarn sales and joked about video chatting instead of IM so we could knit and talk at the same time.
Don't you just love your friends? :D

It's snowing
I walked home today and took the long way, just because.
I stuck out my tongue and smiled and giggled when snow landed on my eyelashes and my nose.
I hate the cold. I hate being cold. Naturally, I should not like winter. I should like staying inside with some yarn, a book, and chocolate (which I do most of the time, anyway).
But…everything looks so pretty. When it's snowing.
You feel light and happy (not just because it's Friday) and want to stay out just a little longer.
I like it when it snows.
Today was a good day :)

Organized deadlines
are for squares :P
National Finish A Sweater Month? Didn't happen. I've grown kind of tired of Mon Cherie, at least for the time being. I think it was taking too long and it's rather large now, so it's kind of hard to maneuver in my lap. It will have to sit a while before being picked up again, don't worry, it will be.
However, I have gotten over Second Sock Syndrome. Aquamarine is swimming again :D
Designing. It made my brain hurt. Sorry, Gershwin. There's someone I'd like you to meet…

National Write A Play Month? Strangely, this is the one I did finish.
Yep. Eight scenes. 15 pages. On time.
"But that was for a class, you had to—
"—SHUT UP."

A proper send-off
My piano teacher is recruiting donations for a mitten drive. So today I picked through our giant baskets of winter ware for donatable items.

They're too small on me now :(
But I like to think that my very first knit designs will be keeping someone else warm.
After all, that's why we knit in the first place, isn't it?

Tug-of-war
I am being yanked in many different directions.
I want to knit.
I want to draw.
I want to read.
I want to write.
I don't want to flunk school.
I also want to blog, but things are getting in my way.
So to hold you for now:

(Done during a slow day at work, didn't have an eraser, so some things were cleaned up a little when I got home, but I liked and kept the sketchy-ness.)
And also, my cousin lost one of the fingerless gloves I made for her, so hopefully I'll get to go yarn-shopping to make a new pair soon :D

Upsetting news
I think my camera's dead.
The power button somehow got stuck, so I can't turn it on at all.
So pray my dad has a miracle up his sleeve or else I'll be without pictures for a while.

November
Because I like to mess things up :D
NaKniSweMo (National Knit A Sweater Month)
NaFinSweMo (National Finish A Sweater Month)

Mon Cherie: it's getting on my nerves. Because I have been ribbing for a good month, and still have like eight rounds of ribbing to go. I swear it will cast-off by the 30th!!!
Er, I hope.
NaWriNovMo (National Write A Novel Month)
NaWriPlaMo (National Write A Play Month)
School: it does not like me.
So stay tuned for angst, anger, and more angst! And did I mention angst!

My Saturday . . .
was spent, as usual at the museum.
I love my job. I get to let little kids hold dinosaur bones, enjoy art for free, and access secret doors with my ID badge :P
Oh, and eat lunch out here:

(Whoa, check out the trees!)

Aaaaaand some cool white plant-thingys that I have learned are called sea oats:

Hope you had a great weekend :)
